Who do I contact in an emergency?

As the water company for the North West, we know how important a reliable, high quality water supply is to the success of your business. That’s why we want to do all we can to make sure your queries are dealt with quickly and with little fuss.

As the wholesaler, United Utilities is responsible for:

  • Maintaining the water and wastewater pipe networks across the North West
  • Managing the supply of water to your business
  • Collecting, treating and returning your wastewater to the environment

So when the unexpected happens – such as your water goes off, is discoloured or the water pressure drops unexpectedly, don't worry - we'll put it right for you as quickly as we can. Find out more on how to contact us if you have a water or wastewater emergency.

If your query is related to your water and wastewater bill, please contact your retailer as they are responsible for billing and will be able to answer any questions you have regarding your charges.

Whilst we aim to provide a continuous supply of water to all of our customers, running a network of over 40,000 km of water mains means that sometimes things do go wrong. We therefore cannot guarantee that your water supply will never be interrupted, so we would recommend that you undertake your own continuity planning to assess how critical water is to your processes. We would also encourage you to decide how you will operate during any period of interrupted supply. Retailers can often help with your contingency planning - for example to assess how much water storage may be required on your site or provide information on additional pumping facilities to alleviate pressure issues. Retailers can also often introduce industry contractors specialising in this.
